FORECLOSURES IN MASSACHUSETTS
Foreclosure petitions are up in Massachusetts in 2012, although not to the height of the crisis two years ago. Many lenders are still trying to ramp up foreclosure proceedings on the backlog of properties in default and many homeowners are still struggling. The recent Attorney Generals’ settlement between five major lenders, HUD, DOJ and the states will bring over $300 million in relief to Massachusetts homeowners. As a result of the settlement, Attorney General Coakley has launched HomeCorps, a new initiative to prevent unnecessary foreclosures. As part of the HomeCorps initiative, the Attorney General’s Office has expanded the direct assistance available to distressed homeowners through the AGO, and is providing for a wide range of grant opportunities aimed at easing the foreclosure crisis, revitalizing communities and aiding borrowers. Come hear the latest on these initiatives and updates on foreclosure data and trends.
