CHAPA Advocates for Affordable Housing in Supplemental Budget

On October 1, CHAPA sent a letter to House and Senate Leadership in the State Legislature advocating for affordable housing programs to be included in the supplemental budget. For a copy of the letter, click here.

In the letter, CHAPA asks the House and Senate to include:

• $10 million for the production of new homes for extremely low-income households
• $10 million for down payment assistance for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers
• $5 million for the Get the Lead Out program, to support lead paint remediation for low- and moderate-income residents

On September 6, the Governor filed a supplemental budget to close out FY2019, which ended with an unexpected surplus. The House and Senate must now pass their own budgets and reconcile the differences between the two before sending the final budget to the Governor for his signature. The Legislature is expected to take up the supplemental budget in the coming weeks to finalize the budget before October 31.
