Program Manager
Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) is the non-profit umbrella organization for affordable housing and community development activities in Massachusetts. Established in 1967, CHAPA has a diverse and active membership of more than 1,500 people and hundreds of organizations, including volunteers and professionals in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Job Summary:
CHAPA is seeking an energetic, dynamic individual to manage three established yet evolving programs: The Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative, the MassAccess Housing Registry and CHAPA’s Young Professionals Initiative. The Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative supports and promotes homebuyer education and an ongoing dialogue among lenders, non-profits, and others in the homeownership field across the state. The MassAccess Housing Registry is a web-based information clearinghouse that helps people identify affordable housing opportunities; a key feature is to highlight homes for people with disabilities who need accessible or barrier-free housing. The CHAPA Young Professionals Group brings together younger professionals in the field to provide networking and informational opportunities and help them better integrate into CHAPA’s Committees and Policy Leadership Council.
The successful candidate will enjoy working with and coordinating diverse groups of people and be passionate about increasing affordable and accessible housing opportunities in Massachusetts. We welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities for the Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative:
- Coordinate technical assistance and training program for approximately 50 non-profit agencies offering homebuyer education to low and moderate income prospective homebuyers.
- Manage a certification process for agencies, including coordinating an elected 10-member Selection Committee of industry professionals to review applications on a bi-annual basis.
- Facilitate bi-annual advisory committee meetings for lenders, homebuyer educators, and others in the field.
Responsibilities for the MassAccess Housing Registry:
- Maintain a database network and coordinate statewide data collection from over 2,400 properties (www.massaccesshousingregistry.org).
- Conduct marketing and outreach to housing managers, property owners and disability providers and advocates.
- Provide technical assistance and training to partner agencies and property owners.
Responsibilities for CHAPA’s Young Professionals Group:
- Coordinate monthly brown-bag lunches
- Help coordinate a mentoring program that matches more experienced professionals with people who want to advance their careers in the community development field.
- Consider and implement ways to expand the program to better engage young professionals in CHAPA’s work.
The Program Manager position will report to the Programs Director.
Qualifications:
- Two to three years related experience; bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of affordable housing and community development issues and familiarity with non-profit housing organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Experience and desire to work with a diversity of interests and people from varied backgrounds.
- Sensitivity to issues facing lower income people and people with disabilities in accessing housing they can afford.
Salary: The salary is commensurate with experience. CHAPA also provides a generous package of benefits, including vacation and sick time, health insurance, short-term disability insurance, life insurance, and retirement benefits.
