Economic Development Bill Update: House Bonding Committee Re-Inserts Public Housing Provisions

On Tuesday, July 3rd, the House Committee on Bonding reported out the Economic Development Bill (H.4702). The committee, chaired by Rep. Tony Cabral, re-inserted public housing provisions that provide local housing authorities more flexibility to enter redevelopment partnerships and to address deferred capital needs.

The provisions were originally filed as part of the Governor's Economic Development bill (H.4297). The provisions were not included in the the billreported out by the Economic Development Committee (H.4592).

The House Bonding Committee also made changes to the provisions that strengthen tenant protections and allow federal public housing units to participate in the redevelopment partnerships. CHAPA supported these changes in testimony on the bill.

The bill will likely next go to the House Committee on Ways and Means before being voted on by the full House of Representatives. The bill will then be considered by the Senate.
