Governor Patrick Files Housing Bond Bill - March 19, 2013

On Friday, March 15^th, Governor Patrick filed An Act Financing the Production and Preservation of Housing for Low and Moderate Income Residents. The bill authorizes a $567 million four year capital plan. It also carries over $504.5 million in uncommitted funds from the 2008 bond bill for a total of $1,071,500.

Representative Kevin Honan and Senator Jamie Eldridge have filed a $1.4 billion 5 year capital plan, H. 1127, that differs from the Governor’s bill by including the following CHAPA-supported provisions: an extension of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit at $20 million; extending the Commercial Area Transit Node Housing Program to include commercial space in mixed-use buildings; and creating the Early Education and Out of School Time Capital Fund to create a dedicated source of capital financing for early childhood education and out-of-school time facilities that serve high needs children.  

Both bills will be heard at a public hearing on Thursday, April 4^th at 10:00 am in Room B-2.
