Statement from Sheila Crowley, President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition on the FY15 Funding Bill - December 10, 2014

Congressional appropriators released a proposed $1.01 trillion spending bill the evening of December 9 that will fund most of the federal government through September 2015.  The legislation provides full year funding for 11 of the 12 appropriations bills Congress is required to pass each year, including the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) bill. Congress is expected to approve the bill and send it to the President to sign in the coming days.

At long last, Congress is poised to complete work on the FY15 funding bill for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The good news is that finalizing FY15 funding levels will bring certainty to housing assistance providers across the country. The bad news is that the funding levels for HUD programs do not provide the resources needed to even maintain the current level of service, let alone make progress on meeting the nation’s affordable housing needs.
