Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Tenant Selector is a responsible public housing Admissions position, in which the incumbent is expected to work with the public, area agencies and other governmental bodies to accept, review, and process housing applications.  Incumbent must perform accurate data input and clerical duties. Incumbent must maintain records and reports associated with tenant selection. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. Maintain files and records on applicants for public housing units.
  2. Receive and review income documentation and priority verifications.
  3. Receive and review information from applicants, landlords, employers and references.
  4. Receive communications of general nature from applicants and may initiate communications to secure essential information from applicants.
  5. Process housing applications, checking applications for completion of information, and prepares ancillary forms to accompany individual application folders.
  6. Assist in computing rents for new tenants.
  7. Prepare briefing packets, including printed documents on tenant/landlord matters.
  8. Obtain mail from central distribution point, screen same and distribute.
  9. Prepare and send notices to applicants prior to an offer of housing, to verify eligibility and qualification.
  10. Perform maintenance of tenant selection records.
  11. Performs other related duties of the class, as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. 1-2 years of Tenant Selection experience or other application and eligibility screening.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  5. Competent in basic arithmetic. 
  6. Working knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.
  7. Ability to work independently or as a team.
  8. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Ability to develop and maintain physical and electronic filing systems.
  10. Ability to assist the public in person and by telephone or other electronic means.

 

Job Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week  

Bargaining Unit: Chapter 3, National Conference of Fireman and Oilers, 32BJ/SEIU 

Salary: Commensurate with experience and negotiable to a maximum of $60,148.
