CHAPA's Letter to Congress Asking to Protect Affordable Housing in Tax Reform

With the U.S. House of Representatives set to vote on the Tax Reform Bill on Thursday or Friday of this week, CHAPA has contacted each Massachusetts Representative asking them to oppose the tax reform bill which would be devastating for affordable housing in Massachusetts. Thank you to the 43 organizations who joined our letter!

Specifically, we are asking Congress to:

• Preserve the tax exemption of Private Activity Bonds to support affordable housing and avoid the elimination of the 4% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit;
• Make changes to LIHTC to offset the impact of a lower corporate rate on the value of the tax credit;
• Restore the Historic Tax Credit and the New Markets Tax Credit; and
• Reinvest any housing dollars from reforms to the mortgage interest deduction into affordable housing programs.
