Job Description

SALARY: $55,000 - $ 60,000 per year.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position.

OVERVIEW:

The Database Administrator provides a seamless flow of information throughout the organization, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users. The Database Administrator is responsible for the management and maintenance of Metro Housing’s databases, maintaining adherence to the data management policy and ensuring that essential software and equipment are functional.

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INLCUDE:

  • Monitor system performance and identify problems that arise;
  • Respond in a timely manner to user-reported errors;
  • Protect the database against threats or unauthorized access via confidentiality through encryption, software integrity, and system availability; 
  • Ensure that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss;
  • Report on metrics regarding usage and performance;
  • Suggest changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection;
  • Design databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind;
  • Define users and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner;
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users;
  • Create, document, and enforce database policies, procedures and standards; 
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity; 
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required;
  • Assists IT staff in resolving helpdesk tickets when ticket numbers reach high levels;
  • Develops and validates procedures for submission of business critical data to suppliers and government agencies. Such data may include, but will not be limited to 50058s (to PIC), 1099s (to IRS and property owners), Customer Payment Advice (to MBHP Owner’s Portal), Direct Deposit data (to banks), etc; and
  • Design, manage, and support VMware products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field;
  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a database administrator;
  • Experience supporting web-based and client-server systems (web design experience desirable);
  • Ability to translate technical terminology into layman’s terms and conversely to translate business needs into technology requirements;
  • Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Highly organized and reliable;
  • Capable of working under time pressure;
  • Ability to stay updated with trends and developments in database administration;
