To achieve our mission of reducing homelessness, the primary components of our work include building effective relationships between properties, social service providers, and families; standardizing and enhancing supportive services that empower families to thrive in healthy tenancies; and promoting systemic changes to further lift families out of homelessness.

The Housing Coordinator will work closely with the Deputy Director on managing referral efforts to support the stable tenancies of our families in collaboration with New Lease partner organizations. The Housing Coordinator will primarily work with our partners including property managers and shelter providers. This position will primarily be remote with some in-state travel.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the process of referring families to housing units. Review housing applications and family stabilization plans. Support property managers and social service providers during the tenant selection process and lease-up period to ensure that families have successful screening and lease-up.
  • Support property managers, resident service coordinators, and New Lease Stabilization Manager to work as a team to help the families maintain stable tenancies and gain access to job, education, childcare, healthcare, and other key services that promote family stability.
  • Assist in developing and conducting trainings for property management staff and social service provider staff around New Lease systems and strategies to support stable tenancies and strong families.
  • Assist in data collection efforts and systems; track outcomes and consider programmatic changes that are informed by collected data; coordinate data collection efforts with New Lease’s evaluation team.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in (or in combination with) housing search, resident services, property management, or housing programs.
  • Significant direct experience working with homeless families or other disadvantaged populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to access government and community services available to disadvantaged populations.
  • Experience developing and conducting trainings.
  • Ability to periodically travel to meetings across the state. Driver’s license required.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and homelessness programs and policies at the local, state, and federal levels is strongly preferred.

  • Experience and commitment to developing, tracking, and measuring outcomes to drive program design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, open-mindedness, respect for others’ perspectives, and a sense of humor.
  • Commitment to expanding affordable housing for homeless families.
  • Spanish language skills are preferred but not required.

Salary: The salary is commensurate with experience. New Lease provides a generous benefits package.
