Housing Spotlight: America’s Affordable Housing Shortage, and How To End It provides an in-depth analysis of the growing gap between the number of low income renters and the number of units that are affordable and available to them. This analysis comes from the 2011 American Community Survey and shows that there are just 30 affordable and available units for every 100 households with an income at or below 30% of the area median income. This Housing Spotlight provides data at both the national and state level and proposes that funding the National Housing Trust Fund is the best way to begin filling this growing gap.
