SUPPORT THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND - Sign on to a Letter TODAY (May 2) Urging Senator Warren and other Senate Banking Committee Members to Work Together on Johnson-Crapo Bill
The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs has postponed mark-up of the Johnson-Crapo housing finance reform bill, originally scheduled for April 29, in order to obtain the support of six additional senators, including Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) , who support the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) portion of the bill but have concerns about other parts. The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) is urging organizations in Massachusetts to sign on to a letter urging them to work together to resolve their concerns. Massachusetts would receive an estimated $98.7 million a year from the Trust under Johnson Crapo at full implementation.
SUPPORT THE NATIONAL HOUSING TRUST FUND Sign on to a Letter Urging Senate Banking Committee Members to Work Together on Johnson-Crapo Bill
The mark-up of the Johnson-Crapo housing finance reform bill, originally scheduled for April 29, has been postponed until next week. Several members of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs have not yet agreed to support the bill. Their support is crucial to the future of the bill, and to the future of the National Housing Trust Fund.
BACKGROUND Senators Reed, Schumer, Menendez, Brown, Merkley, and Warren are all ardent supporters of the NHTF. They are pleased with the treatment of the NHTF in the Johnson-Crapo bill, but have a variety of other concerns that have not yet been resolved to their satisfaction.
Please sign your organization on to a letter urging these six Senators to work together to resolve concerns so that the bill has the support it needs to move forward to a vote on the Senate floor this year. It is crucial that these six Senators find a way to support the bill. This moment is too important to let slip by. Tell your Senator to stay at the table!
