On January 9th, MassHousing appointed Chrystal Kornegay as its new Executive Director. Kornegay
served as Undersecretary of Housing and Community Development for the past three years in the Baker Administration. Before serving as Undersecretary, Kornegay was the CEO of Urban Edge, a community development corporation based in Roxbury, and also served as CHAPA’s Board President. She is a graduate of Hunter College and holds a master's degree in city planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

On January 8th, the House Bonding Committee, chaired by Rep. Antonio Cabral, reported out the Housing Bond Bill favorably. The legislation recapitalizes affordable housing programs with $1.71 billion through the capital budget over the next five years. The legislation also expands and extends the Massachusetts Low Income Housing Tax Credit and the Community Investment Tax Credit and extends the Brownfields Tax Credit and the Housing Development Incentive Program.

Today MassHousing launched the Planning for Housing Production Program, a $2 million multi-year grant program that will help cities and towns develop additional technical capacity to implement their 40B housing production goals and deliver new mixed-income housing.

Funding and state and federal tax credits will support creation of more than 500 rental units in Massachusetts, including 348 affordable units
Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced more than $20 million in subsidy funds, and allocated more than $15 million in State and Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to support six new affordable housing projects in Massachusetts. The projects represents 511 new rental units, including 348 affordable units, with 55 reserved for extremely low-income residents, and families transitioning out of homelessness.

On December 21st, President Trump signed tax reform legislation into law. The final legislation preserves the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) as well as the tax exemption for private activity bonds. This means both the 9% and 4% housing credit will remain. The final bill also keeps the New Markets Tax Credit and Historic Tax Credit, both of which faced elimination under the original House tax reform proposal.
