Actions by the Senate and House this week mean decisions on the FY2014 HUD budget will be delayed until at least September. On August 1, the Senate voted against cloture (54-43) on its Fiscal Year 2014 appropriations bill (S.1243) for Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD).

$1.4 Billion Housing Bond Bill Passes Legislature
On Tuesday, July 30th, the Senate passed CHAPA’s top priority, the housing bond bill (H.3492). The bill authorizes $1.4 billion in capital spending over the next five years and extends the Low Income Housing Tax Credit at $20 million per year through 2020.

On July 26, Governor Patrick announced the award of $31 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to 38 cities and towns to support projects and activities in 61 communities. MassHousing announced yesterday that it has closed on financing arrangements on Quincy Heights, the first project in the nation funded under HUD’s Choice Neighborhoods grant program to reach the closing table.
