In an effort to help preserve and increase the amount of affordable, quality rental housing across the country, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) today announced a multifamily insurance rate reduction designed to encourage capital financing of affordable and energy-efficient apartments. The rate reductions announced today will take effect on April 1, 2016, and will directly impact FHA’s Multifamily Housing Programs and properties housing low- and moderate-income families and/or developments installing energy-efficient systems or building within federal energy guidelines.
Today, Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito filed “An Act to Provide Opportunities for All,” which reflects and begins to implement several aspects of the Baker-Polito Administration’s comprehensive economic development plan, including investments of up to $918 million in capital funding for local infrastructure, Brownfields site cleanup, Gateway Cities development, development site assembly and site readiness, smart growth housing
On January 27th, Governor Baker and Lieutenant Governor Polito filed their budget proposal for the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17).

In Walsh’s 2016 State of the City address Tuesday night, he announced a new Office of Housing Stability, shifting the focus from building new units to keeping people in the homes they have now.
The City of Springfield will receive $17,056,880 in NDRC funding to support the creation of an Urban Watershed Resilience Zone. The Resilience Zone will include economically-distressed neighborhoods, and will create an innovation and job training center, create a new program for property owners to restore affordable housing units, and the installation of a heat and power plant to provide non-grid energy to critical facilities in the event of power loss during a disaster.

On December 15th, the FHFA issued a proposed rule on Duty to Serve for comment. The draft rule seeks comment on 89 issues, and comments are due by March 16th.

On December 31, after two rounds of public comments, HUD issued the Assessment Tool form that local governments must use to submit an Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) under the new Affirmatively Further Fair Housing (AFFH) rule. (HUD will issue a separate Tool for states, public housing agencies and Insular Areas).
BOSTON - January 12, 2016 - At today's meeting of the MassHousing Board, the Agency's long-time Executive Director, Thomas R. Gleason, announced that he would retire effective December 31, 2016. The Board voted to name Timothy C. Sullivan, currently MassHousing's Deputy Director for Finance and Rental Programs as Gleason's successor.
