CHAPA mourns the loss of our first Director, Bob McKay, who passed away at age 91. Bob was a passionate advocate for affordable housing and low income tenants throughout his long and distinguished career. He was key to launching the affordable housing movement in Boston and throughout the state in the mid-1960s. A consummate networker, he kept CHAPA at the forefront of a changing housing arena for 20 years. Many former and current CHAPA members owe their involvement in the field to Bob. He will be missed.

The Kuehn Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of its application process for the 2017-2019 Kuehn Fellowship.  The Fellowship offers a two-year placement with paid stipend ($65,000) at one of seven active Greater Boston area housing nonprofits. There is additional support for launching a career in affordable housing development from the Fellow cohort and alumni, an individual mentor and monthly Fellow gatherings. The goals of the program are to both interest young people in the field and add capacity to the Massachusetts housing community.

With just hours to spare before the deadline, Congress avoided a government shutdown by passing a short-term continuing resolution (CR) on December 9. The CR maintains the FY17 spending cap of $1.07 trillion and keeps the federal government funded through April 28, 2017. President Obama signed the bill into law early the next day.
