Barney Frank Cheers, Warns Affordable Housing Advocates

The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) today directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to begin setting aside and allocating funds to the Housing Trust Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund pursuant to the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA). HERA authorized FHFA to temporarily suspend these allocations, and FHFA informed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of a temporary suspension on November 13, 2008. In letters sent today (links below), FHFA notified Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of the agency’s decision to reverse the temporary suspension.
Congressional appropriators released a proposed $1.01 trillion spending bill the evening of December 9 that will fund most of the federal government through September 2015. The legislation provides full year funding for 11 of the 12 appropriations bills Congress is required to pass each year, including the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) bill. Congress is expected to approve the bill and send it to the President to sign in the coming days.

BHA proposes increasing housing opportunities for elderly applicants
New Elder Advantage/Designated Housing Plan out for public comment
BHA Administrator Bill McGonagle is pleased to announce a new draft Designated Housing Plan for its federally funded elderly/disabled public housing developments. The Plan governs the percentage of elderly and non-elderly disabled households living in BHA’s 36 federal elderly/disabled public housing developments located throughout Boston.
The Department of Housing and Community Development released the 2015 Qualified Allocation Plan for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.

On November 13, the State House News Service reported the names and backgrounds of Governor-elect Charlie Baker's transition team chiefs, including a former Democratic congressman, officials from former Gov. William Weld's administration and business leaders.
CHAPA Board President and President and CEO of Urban Edge, Chrystal Kornegay, who also served as a member of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's transition team, will co-chair the "community" transition committee.
